We already knew that a Firefly online game was in the works, but how about something for offline gamers? Generally board games based on movie or television franchises aren’t that good. In fact they tend to be horrible to play. Reading that Joss Whedon’s spaghetti cowboy in space masterpiece ‘Firefly’ was getting the board game treatment had me (and probably you) worried to say the least.
Fortunately, we might not have to be.
The game has been developed by a newer company known as Gale Force 9. Gale Force 9 was responsible for ‘Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery’ which was released to critical acclaim last year in the gaming community.
While it’s probably an impossibility to ever see the series continue on in film format, the gaming world appears to be embracing it. At the latest convention they had 300 copies of their upcoming release of the game and it sold out in less than 10 minutes from when the convention opened. So I’d say they may just have a hit on their hands.
Pricing on the game has been set for $59.99 (though you can pre-order it on Amazon for $46). Surprisingly, a few used copies of this game has been selling for over $145 over on Ebay. If the reactions from GenCon goers are any indication, this is a game that may sell out quick!

In Firefly: The Game – based on the popular Firefly television series created by Joss Whedon – players captain their own Firefly-class transport ship, traveling the ‘Verse with a handpicked crew of fighters, mechanics and other travelers. As a captain desperate for work, players are compelled to take on any job — so long as it pays. Double-dealing employers, heavy-handed Alliance patrols, and marauding Reavers are all in a day’s work for a ship’s captain at the edge of the ‘Verse. Firefly: The Game is a high-end thematic tabletop boardgame from Gale Force Nine (GF9) and the first in a series of tabletop hobby board games and miniatures games from GF9 set in the Firefly Universe.
