Since production wrapped on the ABC pilot ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’, Joss Whedon’s been chiming in about the show left and right. While he was out promoting his film ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, the director of ‘The Avengers’ fielded quite a few questions about the mysterious upcoming show. However, none had to have come up more often than the ones about Agent Phil Coulson, especially since ABC’s Paul Lee confirmed that the agent would be making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the show. Now, for the first time since the official announcement was made back at New York Comic Con, Clark Gregg, the actor who portrays the beloved character, discusses all things Coulson.
In an interview with Collider at WonderCon, Gregg talks about his feelings on the fans embracing him and Agent Coulson, how Marvel went about bringing him back, the pressures of jumping from the films to the ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’, and much more. You can see the enthusiastic actor’s thoughts on all of this in the video below:
I’m very intrigued by his answer to the question about how Phil Coulson is resurrected after the events of ‘The Avengers’. I know that he can’t really say anything more than what he said, but there’s something cool about the people in the show wondering the exact same thing that the audience is wondering as well. I’m still a bit worried as to how they’ll do it since his fate was an integral part of the team’s formation, but I’ll just have to sit back and trust Joss Whedon. (Even though the last time I did that was in ‘Serenity’, and look what happened to Wash!)
Worrying aside, one of my favorite things about Clark Gregg is that he absolutely loves what he’s doing. He’s extremely invested in his characters and he’s so grateful for the warm reception he’s been given by the fans and the whole “Coulson Lives” movement.
Also, how great is it that he wants to know just as badly as the interviewer whether or not Coulson will be popping up on the big screen again? I almost wish that he did go over to ask Joss Whedon if it would happen!
