In anticipation for its premiere next week at South By Southwest, Film District has released a new poster and some new images from the remake of ‘Evil Dead’. Completely backed by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell, the creators of the original cult classic film, this update to the tale directed by Fede Alvarez basically follows the same story fans have come to know and love, except with a more modern take on the material, including the addition of a female lead as opposed to Ash, famously played by Campbell.

We’ve already seen a bit of what the director’s English language debut looks like as red band and green band trailers have already been released, in addition to posters and such. Now, thanks to Filmofilia, we get another look at the upcoming horror film. In addition to a red variant of the previously released poster, this crop of pictures features stills from the movie and some behind the scenes shots. You can check them all out in the gallery below, followed by the synopsis of the film:

In the much-anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin.  When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

After watching the trailers and checking out the images, this ‘Evil Dead’ movie looks wicked in the most literal sense of the word. I’m unfamiliar with his work, but Alvarez certainly has an interesting style going on in the bits that I’ve seen of this film. I’m definitely interested enough to give this new ‘Evil Dead’ a chance, even though I feel like I’ll be super freaked out by it. But that’s half the fun of horror movies anyway, so it’s all good!
