The Wachowski siblings have made a name for themselves ever since their film ‘The Matrix’ was released in 1999. While their last film, ‘Cloud Atlas,’ didn’t fare well at the box office, it still proved that Andy and Lana Wachowski are still innovators and risk takers when it comes to filmmaking. Now they are going back to their sci-fi action roots and are getting ready to start production on ‘Jupiter Ascending.’

The movie already has sign on Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in the lead roles and has now added Douglas Booth to the cast.

Booth is a relative unknown having starred in ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ as Eustace, but it’s his upcoming films that will be released before ‘Jupiter Ascending’ that will make him a known entity. Booth finished up filming on the new Russell Crowe biblical epic ‘Noah’ where he’ll be playing Noah’s son, Shem. He also has the lead role in an adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ written by Julian Fellowes (‘Tourist,’ ‘Downtown Abby,’ ‘Gosford Park’). Booth will play Romeo to Hailee Steinfeld’s (‘Ender’s Game,’ ‘True Grit’) Juliet.

‘Jupiter Ascending’ is a film that was written by the Wachowkis and takes place in a future where humans are considered a lowly life form and are watched by more evolved beings on distant planets ruled by an immortal Queen of the Universe.  The plot will follow a bounty hunter who is ordered to kill a Russian Cinderella-type working female because she possesses the same perfect genetic make-up as the Queen, thus threatening her rule. The two fall in love (naturally) and now must go on the run from advanced humanoids who have been crossbred with animals in order to gain their genetic advantages. For example, workers gain their work ethics from bees and soldiers gaining a pack mentality from wolves.

Tatum will be playing the role of the bounty hunter while Kunis has been cast as the Earth bound Cinderella. No word yet on the role that Booth will play but considering the film is from the same people who wrote and directed ‘The Matrix’ trilogy, no doubt it is something good.

Besides Tatum and Kunis, Booth will be joining Eddie Redmayne (‘Les Miserables’) and recently added Sean Bean (‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Silent Hill Revelation 3D,’ ‘Mirror, Mirror’).  Surprisingly, the casting announcement of Bean states that he will play the role of “Stinger, a Han Solo-type character written older tan co-star Channing Tatum.”

With a description like that, and the star power this film seems to be taking on, ‘Jupiter Ascending’ is shaping up to be the a pretty exciting film and one we’ll definitely be following!

While the production start date of ‘Jupiter Ascending’ has not been announced yet, the film is expected to be released in 2014 and will be the first movie the siblings will be filming in 3D.

So what do you think of the cast for ‘Jupiter Ascending’ so far?
