With the critical and commercial success of Sony Pictures’ ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, it is no surprise that they’re moving forward with a sequel. Recent casting announcements have already revealed that the roles of potential future love interest Mary Jane Watson and the villainous Electro have already been filled, which leaves one key role open to speculation: Harry Osborn.

In the comics, Harry is Peter’s best friend and the son of Peter’s arch-nemesis Norman Osborn (aka The Green Goblin), while later becoming The Green Goblin himself. The actor taking on this role will have some pretty big shoes to fill, so who exactly has what it takes to fill them?

The short-list of actors vying for the role (which was last filled by James Franco in the earlier ’Spider-Man’ film series) actually seems to be growing longer and longer with each passing day. While some of the names being tossed around include Douglas Booth, Brady Corbet, Sam Claflin, Alden Ehrenreich, Boyd Holbrook and Eddie Redmayne, the most recent contender being thrown into the ring is Dane DeHaan. DeHaan made his mark on the industry last year in the super-powered ‘Chronicle’, but has also been seen in films like ‘Lincoln’ and ‘Lawless’, as well as HBO’s vampire drama ‘True Blood’.

In a recent interview with Crave Online, DeHaan responds to the recent rumors of him being involved with the film. “You know, I would love to be in Spider-Man. I have a lot of respect for Andrew Garfield as a person and an artist and a lot of respect for Marc Webb as a person and an artist” said DeHaan. “If that opportunity were to come along, I would be really flattered and humbled to be a part of it. But that‘s about it for now I guess.”

When asked if he had actually auditioned for the role yet, he seemed to skirt the question, only replying with “Well, I know there‘s a lot of names being tossed around and rumors and stuff, but again, it‘s a project I would love to do and if the opportunity would come along and the offer would come along, I would love to do it. Until then, I don’t think it’s worth speculating or creating rumors.”

While Harry’s father Norman has been mentioned in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, he was never actually introduced in the film, leading to even more speculation that with Harry’s inclusion in the film, Norman himself may even make an appearance in the upcoming sequel.
