Universal rolled out a new featurette for its game based film ‘Battleship.’ This time, it’s a great behind the scenes clip on how the movie’s aliens were designed, filmed and animated.

The featurette does have some new scenes not included in past featurettes, clips and trailers and like the others, it includes commentary from director Peter Berg and cast members Taylor Kitsch and Rihanna.

I love behind the scenes features as it makes me appreciate a movie more knowing how much work went into making an elaborate and often times spectacular scene but I don’t know if this will be enough to make ‘Battleship’ worth seeing. I like the complexity of the aliens but the movie is looking like a mash up of various sci-fi films with comparisons to ‘Independence Day’, ‘Transformers’, and  ‘Battlestar Galactica’. Now after seeing the featurette I would throw in a little bit of ‘Terminator’ in the mix.

If you’re not familiar with the movie, here’s the official synopsis:

Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancee; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.
