Alita: Battle Angel James Cameron

‘Alita: Battle Angel,’ the upcoming sci-fi movie from James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez, tells the story of a female robot warrior with many mechanical upgrades. Most notable among those being her giant, cartoonish eyes.

Well, as it turns out, size does matter to Cameron, as the producer asked that Alita’s eyes be made bigger! Following the release of the first trailer, Cameron asked for some tweaks to be made to the appearance of the titular character, played by Rosa Salazar.

A newly released video from a Q&A session following a screening event, Rodriguez (who serves as the film’s director) was asked about the negative reaction to the unnatural nature of Alita’s eyes. Rodriguez explains that shortly following the release of the trailer, Cameron said the eyes needed to be fixed. Because of the negative backlash, it was assumed that he would ask them to be made smaller. But Cameron actually said the irises needed to be bigger to make them look more realistic.
