‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is due in May of 2018 and since it will be FX-heavy, the process takes a while so shooting on the new film actually begins early next year. James Gunn, who directed the first blockbuster, is returning for a second twirl around the Marvel cosmos. Gunn is one of the most active Hollywood hot shots on social media, gratefully interacting with fans and answering questions, but that’s all about to come to an end.
Gunn took to his Facebook page to dispel a rumor, but announced that this would be the last time. As he explained, “From this moment on I’m going to stop commenting on any rumors surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, because, eventually, someone is going to come up with a spoiler that has some truth to it… Eventually someone will actually spoil some detail of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. So this will be my last comment squelching a rumor until May 2017.”
With filming slated to begin soon, he’s sure to have enough on his plate without stressing about commenting on every supposed leak regarding his movie.

The question of Star-Lord/Peter Quill’s parentage was raised in the first ‘GotG’ and set up as a major mystery to be revealed in the sequel. Quill, played by Chris Pratt, had a human mother, but his (unnamed) father was extraterrestrial in origin.
In the comics, the character’s father is King Jason or J-Son of Spartax, but Gunn has already stated that the movie version will deviate from that.
This week, rumors swirled that Gunn planned to make Quill’s father a much more noteworthy character from Marvel Comics, Kree alien Captain Mar-Vell perhaps better known as Marvel Comics’ first Captain Marvel. While the character was fairly high profile, he never quite broke through and in 1982 died of cancer. His codename has since been coopted by other heroes: first Monica Rambeau who served as a long-standing Avenger; then by Mar-Vell’s son Genis-Vell; and currently, Carol Danvers who will bear the title in her own movie, due in 2018.
Among the other spacy characters fans have named are The Beyonder and Adam Warlock.
Said Gunn in his statement, “The rumors surrounding Quill’s parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren’t even close to the truth.”
So… that’s that, huh? Guess we’ll all just have to wait until ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ to find out who Star-Lord’s papa is. It probably would have been too confusing to have two Captain Marvels in the MCCU anyway.
What do you think? What cosmic being is Star-Lord Senior?
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ invades theaters on May 5, 2017. Along with Pratt are returning cast members Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Benicio del Toro (The Collector), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Sean Gunn (Kraglin) and the voices of Bradley Cooper (Rocket) and Vin Diesel (Groot). Joining the party is Pom Klementieff reportedly as Mantis.
