Well… I guess those hashtags might have actually accomplished something. Some viewers of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ detected… something in the interaction between Republic ace pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and ex-First Order Stormstrooper Finn (John Boyega). Although romance isn’t the primary focus of the ‘Star Wars’ movies, there’s usually at least a subplot that revolves around it– Han and Leia, Anakin and Padme. Could Poe and Finn be the Star (Wars)-crossed lovers of the newest trilogy?
It is apparently not out of the question. Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy says that the powers that be have actually discussed this possibility and it may happen! Just… not right away.
“We’ve talked about it, but I think you’re not going to see it in The Last Jedi.
“After 40 years of adventures, people have a lot of information and a lot of theories about the path these stories can take, and sometimes those theories that come up are new ideas for us to listen to, read and pay attention to.”
The Force Awakens’ and ‘Rogue One’ were pretty devoid of any romantic angles. (Or were they?) But having an ex-Stormtrooper and a Republic pilot fall in love would be an interesting ‘Romeo & Juliet’ spin.
John Boyega previously seemed open to the idea, stating:
“As far as I’m concerned when JJ [Abrams] sat us down to go through the script, it was a bromance. But now I’m learning what Mark Hamill said before, when he didn’t know that Darth Vader was Luke’s father: ’You never know what they’re going to pull.’”
While Oscar Isaac said:
“I think there’s a very subtle relationship happening. You have to watch the film a few times to see the little hints, but there was. At least I was playing romance… I won’t say with which character.”
And as Jerry Seinfeld observed, one of the best things about being a gay couple is you instantly double your wardrobe. And some astute ‘Star Wars’ fans have already picked up on that aspect of #Pinn:

And here is a sampling of tweets from other fans that are shipping #Pinn:

If this is how people react to any kind of diversity in a Star Wars film I just want Poe and Fin to make out by the end of the third act. — Chris Swift (@ChrisHSwift) October 19, 2015
Are you a #Pinn shipper? Does it make you happy that this could actually happen on screen and not just in fan art and fic?
