Casting for ‘Deadpool 2‘ is kicking up as we’ve learned that not only is there an actress testing for the role of Domino but two others already have that didn’t work out! That’s right ladies and gentlemen, the Merc with the Mouth is going to be up against one woman who will make sure to break his lucky streak by using her powers against him.
For those unfamiliar with the mercenary Domino, she’s been both a partner and more to Deadpool over the years and her inclusion along with Cable in the upcoming sequel will likely be laying the groundwork for the ‘X-Force’ movie that is also in pre-development.
Apparently, both Gugu Mbatha-Raw (‘Free State of Jones’,’God Particle’) and Sienna Miller (‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’,’Foxcatcher’) passed on the role, and at this time Kerry Washington (‘Django Unchained’,’Scandal’) is testing for it.
If you aren’t familiar with Domino then the casting description for “Neena,” which is the character’s real first name, should bring you up to speed:
- Female
- All ethnicities
- Late 20s – early 30s
- Sexy, lithe and athletic
- She has a witty personality.
- Neena is a no-nonsense badass who rarely shows her feeling. Highly capable, supremely confident and armored in . . . well ARMOR . . . and bullet-proof sarcasm. But beneath her shell she’s still and vulnerable and some soft, beating remnant of her humanity remains intact.In this scene we need to see both sides. When she can’t get what she needs with insults, bluster and threats we need to see some of that vulnerability. It’s hard for her to let down her guard, and in the mercenary community she grew up in showing compassion is almost embarrassing. We should feel like she’d be more comfortable killing Silberman than saying “Please”.
I’m hoping that we’ll see this casting come together soon because she and Cable could make the movie even better than the original if done correctly and also it will need to be an actress that could stick around for awhile.
