While both Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead have shown up in ‘Deadpool‘ you shouldn’t expect more mainstream mutants to show up in any of the sequels and now we have a reason why.

Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were recently interviewed about what to expect in ‘Deadpool 2’ and Reese was quite specific on why we wouldn’t see any cameos from major X-Men in the near future:

“You kinda don’t want a Ferrari in Deadpool unless it’s for a real purpose in the sense that Deadpool is a gritty, grimy, smaller thing, with characters you aren’t as familiar with. It’s a little bit like lovable losers. It’s not the A-list of superheroes, necessarily. … The occasional cameo or appearance by an A-list type person could be really funny and/or dramatic. So we have an eye open for those things, but we don’t want to just put people in it because we can now, if that makes sense.”

One could argue that Colossus has been an A-List mutant for quite some time and Deadpool himself is one of Marvel’s most well-known characters outside of The Avengers, who he was briefly a member of in the comics, but Reese does raise a good point that the mutant universe that Fox has created so far doesn’t quite fit with what Deadpool is up to. Clearly, the next film would be a great launching point for X-Force and other darker characters but seeing them mix it up with the mainstream X-Men doesn’t feel quite right without a good reason.

Do you agree with Reese that the one and style are too different for Wade to meet up with more of the central X-Men or would we all be better off with some future crossovers occurring? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
