Last June we heard that David Magee (‘Life of Pi’,’Finding Neverland’) was writing a draft for ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair’ but what we didn’t know at that time was that it would be rebooting the franchise. Thankfully, the reboot is happening in a way that shouldn’t have us worried. They aren’t remaking the films which were last released but going forward with the next novel from the series.

Magee had been working on the first draft for a year and had just completed it when we had last heard an update on things. Now producer Mark Gordon is sharing more details about the film. The TCA Winter Press Tour has had a lot of television news coming out but when speaking about his new CBS ‘Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders’ series he not only confirmed that it was still in the works but that its time might be at hand!

His direct quote on timing was that:

“We’re hoping to be able to make the movie very shortly. We’re very excited about it.”

As ‘The Silver Chair’ took place decades after the events of the 2010 release of ‘Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ it seems like the perfect point to kick off a new trilogy. When asked if any of the original cast would be reprising their roles in the upcoming film he stated:

“No, it’s all going to be a brand new franchise. All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from.

So there you have it, folks. A brand new series and, wait, what is this about “all original characters”? Is this a reboot or a rewrite of C.S. Lewis’s classic work? These are characters that are “from the world” of Narnia but just haven’t been seen on the big screen as of yet.

Honestly being a reboot makes sense as the franchise rights have switched hands since the last movie from The Walden Group and back to The C.S. Lewis Company along with The Mark Gordon Company. It not only seems logical that they would want to start a new take on the franchise but to do so without rebooting films so recently made is the smart play here. While still in the world of Narnia this will be a new set of stories for the filmmakers to work with.

Are you happy to hear that we’ll be getting more tales from Narnia? Glad that they figured out how to reboot the franchise without rebooting the movies that were already made? Share your thoughts below!
