Max von Sydow (‘Dune‘,’Minority Report‘) has one of the most impressive cinematic resumes in Hollywood and is poised to enter the upcoming sixth season of ‘Game of Thrones‘! Von Sydow will be replacing Stuan Rodger who briefly played the character of the Three-Eyed Raven in the Season Four finale when he was initially introduced.

For those of you unfamiliar with his work, let me just say that as a two time Oscar nominee the man has some serious acting chops. He is joining newcomer Ian McShane on the series though “both McShane and von Sydow are not expected to have a lot of screen time next season, but both roles are crucial in their own way.”

While we don’t know what McShane will be up to, it should be pretty clear that von Sydow will have an important impact on whatever direction Isaac Hempstead Wright’s Bran Stark has moving forward. We know that Stark saw an actual Raven with three eyes in his prophetic dreams through the first three seasons and only came upon the man who has told him that he will not help him walk but fly as the story arc was put on hold for an entire season.

My personal suspicion is that Bran will grow to take the Three Eyed Raven’s place of watching through the eyes of birds though if he will live out the rest of his life in the roots of this tree or what deeper purpose that means is still unknown. With Bran’s story line pretty much caught up with George RR Martin’s novels at the end of season four it truly is a mystery as to who the character is.

Are you looking forward to Bran finally returning to the show? Do you think Max von Sydow will be a great choice to instruct him moving forward? Share your thoughts below!
