Time is quickly closing in on the sequel to ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ and we’ve got 15 new images from it’s sequel to show you! Sure ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug‘ is clearly focused on a certain dragon in the title but the wonderful thing about the world of the one ring that would rule them all is the depth of characters found within – these images will focus on those characters! Consider the following images to be dragon free as we take a look at some of the major players involved in the upcoming film.

First up we have Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, Jed Brophy as Nori and Richard Armitage as Thorin. In the second shot we have quite a bit of the cast as it shows Graham McTavish as Dwalin, Richard Armitage as Thorin, Stephen Hunter as Bombur, Luke Evans as Bard, Dean O’Gorman as Fili, John Callen as Oin, Peter Hambleton as Gloin and William Kircher as Bifur. Third on the list is Sylvester McCoy as Radagast looking pretty solemn. Next up is another shot of Bilbo, this time surrounded by what looks to be a small bit of booze. The fifth shot shows Armitage leading his dwarven comrades. The sixth show shows every’s favorite Ian McKellen (‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘) as Gandalf doing what he does best, lighting the way in a cave with his staff. Finally we have Bilbo once again surrounded by booze. Makes you start to wonder if he has a drinking problem!

While I love the newly released photos I still prefer featurettes and interactive toys to the images and posters.

Do any of these shots have your interest for the upcoming film? Are you dying in anticipation to see it? Has it been marketing overload? Share your thoughts below!

‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Having survived the beginning of their unexpected journey, the Company continues East, encountering along the way the skin-changer Beorn and a swarm of giant Spiders in the treacherous forest of Mirkwood. After escaping capture by the dangerous Wood-elves, the Dwarves journey to Lake-town, and finally to the Lonely Mountain itself, where they must face the greatest danger of all – a creature more terrifying than any other; one which will test not only the depth of their courage but the limits of their friendship and the wisdom of the journey itself – the Dragon Smaug.

‘The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug’ is directed by Peter Jackson and will open in theaters on December 11, 2013.
