Patrick Stewart

Fans of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ were dying to see ‘Star Trek: Picard,’ and the series has debuted to high ratings from critics and fans alike! While a series like this will probably include quite a few Easter eggs to connect it to the “Star Trek” universe, Patrick Stewart was quite proud of one Easter egg which he managed to work into the script for the first episode.

What probably brought a chuckle to fans of the character took place on the Picard French vineyard, where the show started. It was when he went to the replicator and ordered his iconic “Tea, Earl Grey, hot.” with a twist. This time around, the ex-captain ordered it as “Tea, Earl Grey… decaf.”

The actor shared with TV Line:

That was my line! My joke. I wrote that!

I just thought the fans would really, really enjoy that. They expect ‘tea, Earl Grey, hot,’ but instead, they get ‘tea, Earl Grey, decaf.'”

As this show takes place twenty years after the events of ‘Star Trek: Nemesis’ we have a much older Jean-Luc at the helm of this series. In retirement, Picard probably doesn’t need to stay quite as awake at all hours of the day and therefore doesn’t need the caffeine in his diet.

Did you enjoy hearing Jean-Luc Picard ordering his iconic drink without caffeine? Are you thrilled that Patrick Stewart can weave a bit of humor into the script? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
