Tony and Morgan Stark From 'Avengers: Endgame'

It isn’t news that Katherine Langford‘s adult version of Morgan Stark was cut from ‘Avengers: Endgame,‘ but now that fans have been able to see the scene in question on Disney+, co-director Joe Russo has revealed why it was removed.

The original idea that the directors and writers had in mind was for Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark to have a chance to meet his daughter as a grown-up. While the scene was shot, it was obviously never included in the final cut of the film.

According to Joe:

“Since Thanos had that poignant experience with his daughter in Infinity War, we started playing with the idea that there was something interesting and resonant in the symmetry with Tony and his daughter. The reason we ended up moving away from it is, once we shot it, we began to understand as we were actually shooting it, is that the audience didn’t have a relationship with his adult daughter in the film. They had a relationship with his young daughter but not with his adult daughter. It didn’t feel like it was as powerful as we may have thought, so we began to move away from it.”

For those interested, this moment is one of the extra scenes that was included in the additional features of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on Disney+. Upon viewing, you can easily see why the directors felt it would have been emotional to include but didn’t really fit the narrative. This was the final moment for Tony “to make the sacrifice play,” and his emotional attachment was with his young daughter, not a grown-up version of her.
