Brandon Routh as 'Crisis' Superman

With Brandon Routh set to reprise his role as Superman in the CW’s ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths,’ fans were both excited and somewhat curious about the role he would be playing. When Routh originally played Superman in ‘Superman Returns,’ he was taking over for Christopher Reeves, and the movie itself was said to be a continuation of the Reeves universe of movies with Routh essentially playing the same version of Superman.

The movie did not fare all that well. No one blamed Routh for what happened as he was highlighted as one of the better aspects of the movie. And now with Routh playing Superman in the CW Crossover, does that mean he is still playing the Reeves Superman, the one introduced in Richard Donner’s ‘Superman: The Movie?’ According to Arrowverse Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim in a recent Tweet, that answer is yes:

christopher reeves as supermanThis confirmation makes the role even better as it is the first confirmed DC movie crossover into the CW universe and a nice nod to Christopher Reeves who is a giant in the live-action Superhero world. Combined with rumors of a trip to the world of Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’ movie, and a potential visit from some of the characters from the DC Streaming Service’s ‘Titans’ show, this will undoubtedly prove to be one of the most massive DC cross-over events we may ever see.

As for Routh getting to play the Reeves Superman one more time, especially after only getting to play it once due to the negative responses to ‘Superman Returns,’ it surely feels like a dream come true for fans, though it will be interesting to see how the character has changed in the years since we last saw him up on the big screen.

What are your thoughts on the Superman Routh is playing? Did you suspect this was the case the whole time? Feel free to share your opinions below!
