On a recent Earnings Call for Disney, CEO Bob Iger shared quite a few details about their plans for the future. While he didn’t go into specifics about their upcoming Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm projects, he did share that there are more live-action “Star Wars” shows in the works. ‘The Mandalorian‘ looks to be an instant hit for Disney+ with most fans rooting for the series, including franchise creator George Lucas.
This is particularly good news for fans who were crushed by the recent news that after ‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’ is released that the “Star Wars” films will go “into a hiatus” while they rework what they plan to do moving forward.

It is unclear if David Benioff and D.B. Weiss backing away from their Jedi origin story trilogy were what pushed back development or if they were asked to delay things while Disney and Lucasfilm put together a new plan. There is no word as well on if this impacts the plan for Rian Johnson’s trilogy or of his films might be making their way into an ongoing series on Disney+ instead.
As to the upcoming shows that are in pre-production? Iger wouldn’t give out any details but did state that they have “more in development” outside of the ‘Rogue One’ prequel and Obi-Wan Kenobi series. While I’m loving that they are fleshing out two areas which fans will likely appreciate, I can only hope that more of these shows will be like ‘The Mandalorian. ‘ I’m hoping that they are going to introduce us to newer characters and not just shine a spotlight on those who we’ve already seen.
Are you thrilled that we’ll be getting more live-action “Star Wars” shows? What eras would you like to see them take place in? Do you want original stories that take place after ‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’ or references of previous encounters fleshed out? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
