Joe Manganiello (‘True Blood’) is returning to genre work with a bang in an interesting new film called ‘Archenemy.’ The movie is coming from AFM by Voltage Pictures and is being helmed by Adam Egypt Mortimer (‘Daniel Isn’t Real’) based on a story by the writing duo Mortimer and Lucas Passmore. Producing is SpectreVison, who is responsible for giving fans the Nicholas Cage starring ‘Mandy.’ Producing for SpectreVision is Daniel Noah, Lisa Whalen, and Elijah Wood with Stacy Jorgensen and Babacar Diene of Voltage Pictures. Kim Sherman is also producing.
As to what the film is about, The Hollywood Reporter posted this description:
Archenemy is the story of Max Fist, who claims to be a hero from another dimension who fell through time and space to earth, where he has no powers. No one believes his stories except for a local teen named Hamster. Together, they take to the streets to wipe out the local drug syndicate and its vicious crime boss known as The Manager.
While most casting has yet to be announced, we do know that Manganiello will be playing Max Fist, who sounds like a character that we’ll find highly entertaining to watch.

According to Voltage CEO Jonathan Deckter:
“Archenemy is about finding the heroes amongst us, and within us, something that I think everyone can relate to in today’s world. We’re thrilled to add this fun, action-packed superhero to our diverse lineup and are excited to work with Adam and SpectreVision on our second film to bring this dynamic duo to the streets, and to our partners around the world.”
Company X/SpectreVision CEO Lisa Whalen added in:
“We’re excited to reteam with Adam and Voltage to bring another unique genre vision to the screen. We’ve long wanted to work with Joe, and Archenemy is the perfect opportunity to do so.”
Manganiello hasn’t been doing much genre work since there has been no movement on returning to the DC Universe as Deathstroke in quite some time and the ‘Dungeons & Dragons‘ film he was campaigning for never went anywhere. With that in mind, this feels like a perfect part for him to play!
