After ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ and ‘Crimes of Grindelwald‘ made a combined $1.47 billion at the global box office and with everyone still loving ‘Harry Potter,’ it should come as no surprise that Warner Bros. would greenlight a third film. If anything, it is a little surprising that it has taken this long for the next chapter of J.K. Rowling‘s Potterverse saga to see the light of day.
While the film was initially set to shoot in July of 2019, pre-production was taking longer than expected, and the studio hadn’t officially pushed forward on a shooting schedule. This lines up with the fact that Dan Fogler previously shared that the next movie is “bigger than the first two combined.” The new plan is to have the movie start shooting in the Spring of 2020. Not only that, but Warner Bros. was eager to reveal a few other details not central to the plot of the film.
For starters, Jessica Williams (‘The Twilight Zone,’ ‘Corporate Animals’) will have a more significant part to play in this outing. In the second installment, she played Professor Eulalie “Lally” Hicks, who is “a teacher at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the American equivalent of Hogwarts.” It isn’t clear what she’ll be up to in this film, but she is said to play a pivotal part in the story.
Next up, just like how the first film took place in New York City and the second in Paris, we’ll see a new setting this time around. The movie is set to shoot and take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
We know that the major stars from the first two films are set to reprise their roles, but what part of Grindelwald’s plot that is set to play out here is still a mystery.
