Last year we learned that Apple TV+ was going to bring us a live-action take on Isaac Asimov’s iconic ‘Foundation‘ series and now we’ve learned who the two leads will be! No strangers to television or genre work, Lee Pace (‘Captain Marvel’,’The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’) and Jared Harris (‘Carnival Row’,’The Expanse’) will be tackling two of the leading roles for the upcoming series. The first season is slated to have a 10-episode run, and the streaming service has plenty of source material to flesh out the story for quite some time.
The series started as a set of short stories that would grow to encompass eight novels. This means that there is plenty of ways to expand upon the world, which we’ll be presented. The work was initially published in 1942 and tried to imagine humanity already scattered across the galaxy and ruled by the Galactic Empire. One historian is using new technology to predict upcoming events and feels that the Empire is destined to collapse in the near future and is attempting to prevent all of humanity’s knowledge and history from being wiped out when it does. Directly opposing him is the head of the Empire.
The show will have Harris portraying Hari Seldon, who is “a mathematical genius who predicts the demise of the empire.” Next up, we have Pace, who is set to play Brother Day that happens to be “the current Emperor of the Galaxy.”
The show initially had David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman serving as co-showrunners on the series though Friedman would later leave the production. Joining Goyer as executive producers will be David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Marcy Ross, and Robyn Asimov. Friedman still retains an executive producer credit though it is unclear if he had any continued involvement with developing the series once he parted as a showrunner.
Are you looking forward to seeing Jared Harris and Lee Pace star in the ‘Foundation’ series? If you’ve read the books, would either have these stars been at the top of your list? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
