‘Iron Fist’ actor Jessica Henwick is reportedly in talks to play an unnamed female lead in ‘The Matrix 4’. According to Deadline, sources say she performed “quite strongly” during the audition process. Now it’s just a matter of signing on the dotted line.
Reportedly, director and co-screenwriter Lana Wachowski is looking for a female actor to play a role similar to that of Neo in the new film. (Presumably, that refers to Neo in the first film, when he was first introduced to the idea of The Matrix.) That’s not to say that this is the part that Henwick is auditioning for, but it might be.
Henwick is no stranger to action roles, having starred as katana-swinging Colleen Wing for two seasons on Netflix’s ‘Iron Fist’, and one season of ‘The Defenders’. Prior to that, she portrayed the bullwhip-snapping, Nymeria Sand for three seasons of ‘Game of Thrones’.

Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) who starred in the original ‘Matrix’ trilogy are confirmed as returning for this new sequel. It was just revealed that Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe) who starred in ‘Matrix Reloaded’ and ‘Matrix Revolutions’ is in talks to return as well. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has joined the cast, but his role is unknown, although it is heavily rumored that he will be playing a younger version of Morpheus. Along those lines, it is also reported that an actor is being sought to portray a younger version of Neo. At this time, Laurence Fishburn, who played Morpheus in the originals, has not been announced as returning or even being in talks. Neil Patrick Harris has been cast in another mystery role.
Henwick will be seen in the horror movie ‘Underwater’ in January, which co-stars Kristen Stewart, Vincent Cassel, and T.J. Miller. On March 6, she will appear in ‘Monster Problems’ along with Dylan O’Brien, and Michael Rooker. The very next week, she will be seen in ‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ which also features Millie Bobby Brown, Eiza González, Alexander Skarsgård, Danai Gurira, Brian Tyree Henry, and a whole lotta CGI. Henwick has also wrapped the comedy ‘On The Rocks’ which also stars Bill Murray, Jenny Slate, Rashida Jones, and Marlon Wayans. She provides the voice of Alexia on the upcoming Netflix anime ‘Gods & Heroes’.
