Much like ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Parmount’s ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’ brings a new twist to the classic fairy tale and now you can see how much of a twist that will be with this first new trailer for the film!
The movie stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the brother and sister witch hunting team who got their start as young kids when they pushed their first witch into an oven meant for them. Having a taste of “witches’ blood”, the film fast forwards 15 years later where they have now evolved into witch exterminators. When the Mayor of Augsburg recruits the siblings to rid the town of an evil sorceress (played by ‘X-Men’ and ‘Hemlock Grove’, actress Framke Janssen) who is planning unspeakable things to the kids of the town, they must save the kids, vanquish the witch and her evil coven and also deal with a sheriff (Peter Stormare) who has taken upon himself to conduct a witch-hunt of his own.
The film has a very tongue-in-cheek style of storytelling and the steampunk look of the twins adds to its somewhat charming nature. If you’re wondering why Jeremy Renner, the now an in demand star with films such as ‘The Avengers‘, ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’, and ‘The Bourne Legacy’ under his belt, is doing in a rather non blockbuster film, he had sign on to star in this movie before those three movies were filmed and became a big hit. Originally, the movie was to be released in March 2, 2012 but Paramount had decided to push the release back 9 months to January 11, 2012 in order to convert the film to 3D and, some speculate, to cash in to Renner’s now increased popularity.
Check out the trailer below and let me know if you think this will add to Renner’s star or if the film should just go straight to DVD.
