Sailor Moon Is Returning To The Big Screen In 2020 In 'Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal'
Toei Animation

Sailor Moon is coming back in a brand new two-part anime film, and now the title has been revealed: ‘Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal’.  “Bishoujo” (美少女, also spelled “Bishōjo”) literally means “beautiful girl.”  “Senshi” (戦士) means “soldier”, “warrior”, “guardian”, or “fighter.”  So the new title is essentially “Beautiful Girl Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal.”

This news comes via Twitter user Aitaikimochi:

The new film is essentially a sequel to ‘Sailor Moon Crystal’, with much of the creative team returning.  Original ‘Sailor Moon’ creator Naoko Takeuchi acts as supervisor.  Chiaki Kon returns to direct, with a script by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu.  Original Sailor Moon anime character designer Kazuko Tadano is handling the designs.  It is said that ‘Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal’ will employ a new animation style.

It is believed that this two-part movie will adapt the manga’s “Dead Moon” storyline.

‘Sailor Moon’ is available to stream on Hulu, and that includes the original series from the ’90s, including ‘Sailor Moon Stars’, which was not previously released in the U.S.  Hulu is also offering ‘Sailor Moon Crystal’, the revival from 2015.

“Usagi Tsukino is a clumsy but kindhearted teenage girl who transforms into the powerful guardian of love and justice, Sailor Moon. Meeting allies along the way who share similar fates, Usagi and her team of planetary Sailor Guardians fight to protect the universe from forces of evil and total annihilation.”

A trailer for ‘Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal’ was revealed this summer when the film was first announced:

The American anime community continues to expand, with Netflix and other streaming services re-releasing classic series from the past and creating new projects.  But very few anime have had the level of success in the U.S. as ‘Sailor Moon’.
