It seems as if Warner Brothers is shaking things up for ‘Aquaman‘ as they have just attached David Leslie Johnson (‘Wrath of the Titans’,’The Walking Dead’) to help with the script. Previously Will Beall (‘Gangster Squad’), Jeff Nichols (‘Mud’), and Kurt Johnstad (‘300’) had all written separate iterations of the script which were put on hold and with Johnson’s inclusion, it is hard to tell if they are starting it over from scratch or cleaning up one of the three scripts already produced.

With James Wan (‘The Conjuring’,’Furious 7′) on board to direct, I was excited about the film to begin with but knowing that he is already working with Johnson on ‘The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist’ makes me feel that this will be quite a collaborative project between the two.

It will be interesting to see how much of ‘Aquaman’ we are introduced to in ‘Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice’ that Wan will need to work with or if they’ll mostly be using a blank slate for the character.

Historically speaking Aquaman has tended to be the butt-end of jokes but recently Jason Momoa has said to “just wait” and I suspect we’re going to be seeing the more modern take on the character who is quite a bit stronger with a more interesting powerset than just talking to fish. Considering he is also supposed to be “meaner now and upset” over the state of the ocean and the world at large, we should be getting an entirely new beast on Momoa’s take on the character and with Wan in the director’s chair you know know we’re in for something good.

Are you looking forward to ‘Aquaman’? Does another writer change have you worried or do you think he is just on board to streamline an existing script to work with what Wan has in mind for the movie? Share your thoughts below!

‘Aquaman’ will swim into theaters on July 27th, 2018.
