NYCC 2019: The New Star Trek: Picard Trailer
CBS All Access

At New York Comic Con, CBS All Access announced that ‘Star Trek: Picard’ will debut on January 23, 2020, and has released a new trailer for the highly-anticipated series, which picks up on the star of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ (Patrick Stewart) two decades after his last recorded exploit.  The new trailer offers a bit more in terms of plot details, but what old school fans are really dying for is the return of Picard’s ‘TNG’ co-stars and the clip delivers that as well!

We get the impression that Picard has been put out to pasture by the Federation.  Although he is still a respected officer, for all of his legendary adventures, the Federation is no longer inclined to follow his suggestions, which means that in order to help a mysterious young woman who shows up at his family vineyard, he must assemble a ragtag group of misfits to once again head back into “the Cold.”

And as nifty as the new characters seem (although I could live without seeing another space samurai, but that’s probably just me), what many are most looking forward to, are the returns of Picard’s former shipmates.  In the new clip, we get a look at Brent Spiner as Data, although that section looks like a dream sequence, as we already know– based on the SDCC trailer— that something terrible happened to him on Romulus, and he wound up broken into parts and stored in a drawer of some kind.  Fans are also treated to the returns of Jonathan Frakes as William Riker and Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi.  Riker has at least one son, as the clip reveals, but is the child’s mother Deanna?  It seems like it, but that may not be the case, as Troi and Riker aren’t shown together onscreen.

But check it out for yourself!

We just have a few months to wait, as ‘Star Trek: Picard’ will beam down on CBS All Access on January 23, 2020.
