Snowpiercer
TNT/TBS

Welp… nevermind.  In May, it was decided that the upcoming sci-fi drama ‘Snowpiercer’ would shift over from the more action-oriented TNT to sister channel TBS, which is more known for comedies.  The idea was that the Turner networks wanted to shake up their established brands.  But, sometimes it helps to stick with what you know.  The train has jumped the tracks and ‘Snowpiercer’ is now bound for its original destination, TNT.

Chief Content Officer, HBO Max and president, TNT, TBS, and truTV, Kevin Reilly explained:

“We’ve had the unique opportunity to more thoroughly test and explore where this show will best perform. While we are still adding dramas to TBS (such as Obliterated), after further research and consideration we’ve decided to keep Snowpiercer on TNT.  Now that we’ve seen this incredible post-apocalyptic sci-fi series in its entirety, and better understand the audience this show will appeal to, we’re confident it will perform strongest on TNT.”

This change of plans comes after TBS ordered the show that Reilly mentioned, ‘Obliterated’, straight-to-series.  That show hails from the creators of Youtube’s ‘Cobra Kai’ and is a “serialized action dramedy focused on an elite special forces team tracking a deadly terrorist network, hell-bent on blowing up Las Vegas. After their raging end-of-mission party filled with alcohol and drug-fueled debauchery, the team discovers the bomb they deactivated was a decoy. With the clock ticking, the intoxicated team has to fight through their impairments, overcome their personal issues, deactivate the bomb, and save the world.”  Brett Weitz, general manager, TNT, TBS, truTV, stated: “This incredible team brings heart and absurdity to a situation as serious as saving the world, which makes ‘Obliterated’ a perfect fit for TBS.”

It seems that ‘Obliterated’ will be a mix of action and comedy, so that is probably more in keeping with TBS’ established brand.  Nothing so far has given any indication that ‘Snowpiercer’ has any humor.

The ‘Snowpiercer’ TV show has been in the works for what feels like ages now.  But on the plus side, it seems the networks have faith in it, as a second season has already been ordered.

‘Snowpiercer’ stars Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly, plus Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, and Jaylin Fletcher.

It is expected to hit TV screens in spring 2020.
