At the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Steven Moffat announced to the audience that each episode in this season’s ‘Doctor Who’ would play like a mini blockbuster movie. From the looks of the latest poster art released by the BBC, he wasn’t kidding around!
Four new posters were revealed on Wednesday each commemorating the episodes that will feature the last adventures of the Ponds (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill) with the Doctor (Matt Smith). While the first poster was revealed at the same time the trailer for ‘Asylum of the Daleks‘ was released, these other four debuted on their own with no corresponding trailers. But that’s okay! The mere hint of the epic episodes promised by their look is enough for any Whovian, right?
Each poster is specifically designed to correlate with the tone and time of the episode it represents. For example, the poster for ‘A Town Called Mercy’ has a Western theme and a sepia color tone used to simulate old photographs from that time period and in ‘Dinosaurs on a Spaceship,’ the poster portrays that this Jurassic adventure will be as wonderfully silly as the title.
What’s most intriguing is the poster for ‘The Angels Take Manhattan.’ While the font is similar to those used in old 1940’s movie where part of this episode takes place in, upon closer examination, the Weeping Angels behind Amy and Rory are reaching towards them as the companions are pleading. What does it all mean?
With one more day until the highly anticipated premiere of ‘Doctor Who’ on September 1st, Moffat promises that this may just be the biggest season of the show yet and with the trailers, photos and posters that have been released, no one can dispute that claim.
