While even the most die-hard of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘ fans will likely admit that the pacing for the final season felt off, the last chapter has been quite controversial among those who have been tuning in over the years. The way characters ended up have been hotly debated online as many felt their choices were fully justified while others have been up in arms as to decisions which their favorite characters have made.

Backstage at the 2019 Emmys Awards, the cast and crew from the series gathered briefly and were asked how they dealt with the mixed reviews of the end of their watch. Kit Harington was quick to share:

“Controversy. I still haven’t seen the show, so that’s how I dealt with that controversy. I haven’t seen the final season, but I know what it took to shoot it, and it was hard, and everyone put their love and effort into it. Controversy for us — we knew what we were doing was right story-wise, and we knew that it was right for the characters because we lived with them for ten years. Controversy for us — didn’t really affect us.”

So there you have it, folks! The ex-King of the North himself, Jon Snow, has yet to see the series finale of ‘Game of Thrones.’ As to who did end up ruling the majority of the Kingdoms, co-creator David Benioff shared:

“It was always going to be Bran as the king at the end.”

The ending of ‘Game of Thrones’ will likely be a hot topic for years to come. It will be a debate that will continue on through at least the release of the final novels in George R.R. Martin‘s “A Song Of Ice and Fire” so that fans can compare what they saw to what they read. Of course, with the long wait until these books are released and the high page count, it is quite likely this is something that won’t be resolved in fans’ minds for quite some time.

Are you at all surprised that Kit Harington has yet to watch the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’? Do you feel that having worked on the show it would be easy to comment on the controversial ending or could editing and the final cut have made a difference in his decision?
