Woops, we’ve done it again! We’re back with an all-new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you!

This week things are both busy and quiet all at the same time. While not much is happening out in the open, there are definitely plenty of goings on behind the scenes at many of our favorite companies. This week we’ve got new reveals and announcements from our friends at NECA, McFarlane Toys, Funko, and more! School is back in session in the Toy News for the week of September 10th, 2019!

The Master Of Illusions Has Arrived

Last week we got our first glimpse of the newest villainous addition to Hot Toys’ ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ 1:6 scale line, but this week the smokescreen has disappeared to reveal the all-new Mysterio! Quentin Beck is the latest foe to face off with everyone’s favorite wallcrawler in live-action, and now Hot Toys is bringing him to reality in the form of this all-new lovingly crafted 1:6 figure. Mysterio has been tailored to the limits with a specially crafted helmeted head, along with an intricately designed costume that looks like it literally just walked off the movie screen. He also comes packaged with a number of illusion and smoke effects so that you can go all out on your display! Sadly, as of the time of this writing, it does not look like Mysterio will include an unmasked head featuring a likeness of actor Jake Gyllenhaal, although that may change between now and the time this figure releases in 2021! Check out the full release info from Hot Toys below!

Spider-Man: Far From Home – Mysterio 1/6 Scale Figure

“I created Mysterio to give the world someone to believe in. I control the truth…Mysterio is the truth!” – Mysterio

Quentin Beck, a gifted but under-appreciated special effects artist. Chose to focus his skills on becoming Mysterio as the number one super hero in the world, and supplant himself over Iron Man. Coupled with his talent for chemistry, robotics and hypnotism, Mysterio’s convincing illusions on The Elementals blurred the line between reality and fantasy, to the point where the work seems almost supernatural in nature.

Today, Hot Toys is pleased to officially introduce the highly-anticipated 1/6th scale Mysterio collectible figure from Spider-Man: Far From Home with highly-detailed gadgets that specifically counter Spider-Man’s abilities! Masterfully crafted based on Mysterio’s appearance in the movie, the collectible figure features a newly developed helmeted head with incredible likeness, finely tailored cape and armors with luminous reflective elements, a pair of illusion effect accessories, smoke effect diorama accessories, and a movie-themed dynamic figure stand.

Mysterio has now arrived! Marvel fanatics, make sure you do not under any circumstances believe everything you see.

“Get Over Here!”

The ‘Mortal Kombat’ video game franchise has been going strong for over a quarter of a century. While it’s had its ups and downs, it has shown no real signs of slowing down anytime soon. The eleventh proper game in the franchise (discluding spin-off titles like ‘Special Forces’ and ‘Shaolin Monks’) released earlier this year to praise from critics and fans alike! While we knew that our friends at McFarlane Toys was planning to release an action figure line based on the recently released game, ‘Mortal Kombat 11’, we had yet to get a real look at many of the figures planned for the line. Thankfully that changed this week as McFarlane released some new images of their upcoming figure of Scorpion from the 7″ scale line!

This figure looks like it’s everything ‘Mortal Kombat’ fans could dream of! McFarlane seems to be sticking to their guns regarding their newly developed articulation models (which is fantastic news considering many of their older figures, while beautiful looking, are essentially plastic statues), which means that Scorpion looks to have a wide range of movement, factoring in 22 points of articulation! Scorpion will be packaged with two swords (one long and one short), his iconic kunai spear, and a figure stand. It is also worth noting that his mask will be interchangeable with all upcoming variant versions of Scorpion that McFarlane has come down the pipeline in the future. Scorpion will be released this October alongside his rival Sub-Zero in the first wave of ‘Mortal Kombat’ figures from McFarlane Toys. The line is expected to retail for $19.99 each.

We’re All ‘Madballs’ Here

After a successful first wave, the team at NECA and KidRobot (a subsidiary of NECA) are back for more Madballs! An all-new wave of their horror-themed Madballs blindboxed keychains is heading our way. While these are a bit smaller than standard Madballs (and made of sturdy PVC rather than the usual foam), its a fun way to make sure that fans and collectors have a chance to add these characters to their collections! As of the time of this writing, there has not been a confirmation of these Madballs designs being released in the usual full-size Madballs scale. As the first wave of these Madballs keychains were released as a blindbox line, it seems likely that these will as well. Fans can look forward to adding some of horror’s most iconic characters to their collection, plus a few oddball choices including-

  • Beetlejuice from ‘Beetlejuice’
  • Chucky and Tiffany from ‘Bride of Chucky’
  • Evil Ash from ‘Army of Darkness’
  • Pennywise from ‘IT’ (1990)
  • ‘Rambo’ Gizmo from ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’
  • Stripe from ‘Gremlins’
  • The Fiend from ‘The Misfits’ (the band!)
  • The Kidrobot Mascot (with Black and White Variant also available)

NECA and KidRobot have yet to release any information regarding the release window for this new wave of Madballs keychains, but as the Halloween Season is literally just days away, we wouldn’t be surprised if more information was made available sooner rather than later. Hopefully, we see even more fan favorites added to this specialty designer line in the not too distant future!

“Do You Hear What I Hear?”

Dashing through the snow, best to stay out of their way, everywhere they go, people always say “AHH! AHH! AHH!”

First of all, I am very sorry about that poor attempt you just read. Secondly, we are excited to show you some new in-package images of NECA’s upcoming ‘Christmas Carol Winter Gremlins’ figure 2-pack! These images show the final product that will be releasing in October so that you can both have some additional Gremlins for Halloween, and some of the best Christmas holiday decorations we’ve ever seen all at once!

This ‘Gremlins’ figure 2-pack includes two of NECA’s ‘Ultimate Gremlin’ figures, along with a number of scene-specific accessories that allow you to recreate the iconic Christmas Caroling scene from the first film! Accessories include sheet music, a candy cane, a gingerbread man cookie, plus some great winter wear for the Gremlins like hats, scarves, and earmuffs! For all of you completists out there, NECA is also planning a second version of this figure 2-pack that will include all different accessories that will be available exclusively at Target!

NECA Brings ‘It’ On

In what is arguably one of the single most terrifying things they have ever announced, the team at NECA have released images and solicitation information for an all-new life-sized (yes, LIFE-SIZED) foam replica figure of Pennywise The Dancing Clown from Stephen King’s ‘It’! Made of foam rubber and latex, this massive figure stands over 6′ tall and each one is hand-painted for color and design accuracy to make it feel as realistic as possible. If you really feel that you want to have this horrifyingly large foam figure of Pennywise in your home, it will set you back a whopping $1,399.99 when it releases in February 2020! Just be sure you know what you’re getting in for, as I’m fairly certain most people wouldn’t want to be alone in a house with one of these standing around! Check out the images and solicitation information below.

This life-size foam figure of Pennywise from the newly released IT Chapter Two will add a terrifying presence to any room, from home to office to retail environments!

Pennywise stands over 6 feet tall. The figure is made of foam rubber and latex that’s carefully hand-painted for realistic detail.

The Big Bad Bat

When Funko celebrates Batman’s 80th birthday, they really party hard! This week they announced a new super-sized-scale 19″ tall Batman POP! Vinyl! This is one of the largest POP! Vinyls ever produced for mass-retail, and will definitely be a highly sought after item among collectors. This figure appears to be a scaled-up version of the previously released Batman POP! Vinyl inspired by the costume design worn by Michael Keaton in ‘Batman’ (1989). Check out the full info below!

As with nearly every major comic convention, the team at Funko is gearing up for New York Comic Con 2019 with a slew of new convention exclusive announcements that will leave you literally drooling!
