Robert Rodriguez is creating a new superhero concept for a Netflix original movie, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas will star. ‘We Can Be Heroes’ is a kid-friendly flick, from the mastermind behind the ‘Spy Kids’ franchise, and Rodriguez is writing, directing, and producing. In this picture, “alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes, meaning a group of children have to team up to save their parents and the world.” The project, which has been kept under wraps until now, is currently in production.
Rodriguez’s millennium-era ‘Spy Kids’ franchise was a huge hit, comprised of three films. The brand was resurrected for 2011’s ‘Spy Kids: All the Time in the World’. It was also turned into the animated series ‘Sky Kids: Mission Critical’, which lasted for two seasons on Netflix. After ‘Spy Kids 3D’, Rodriguez attempted to launch a similar franchise about kid superheroes, ‘The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3D’, but it failed to match the popularity of ‘Spy Kids’.

Rodriguez’s most recent film was the horror flick ‘Red 11’, which was based on some of his own real-life experiences. This past February, his bigger-budget action movie, ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ stood its ground in a competitive market.
Chopra… er, Jonas is a superstar in her native India, as an accomplished actor, singer, and producer. In the US, she is best known for headlining the series ‘Quantico’ on ABC for three seasons. She also starred in movies like ‘Baywatch’ and most recently ‘Isn’t It Romantic’ with Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth, and Adam Devine. She was also seen in the music video “Sucker” by the Jonas Brothers, which includes her new husband Nick Jonas. She will next be seen in ‘The Sky is Pink’, which she co-produced with Mindy Kaling. A film that Jonas produced but didn’t star in, ‘Firebrand’ arrived on Netflix earlier this year.
