Ewan McGregor

We’ve been hearing about an Obi-Wan Kenobi film for quite some time but now it sounds as if Ewan McGregor won’t be returning to the role for a movie but a new Disney+ series. After the box office disappointment of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story,’ which is surprisingly one of the best “Star Wars” films to have been made, we’ve seen the studio make the mistake of not appearing to continue developing “A Star Wars Story” outings.

A Boba Fett film and a movie focussed on Obi-Wan were all rumored to be in pre-production at one time, so this news  felt like a massive blow to the franchise for those who weren’t suffering from “Star Wars” fatigue or who weren’t annoyed that’Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ didn’t give them the story which they were hoping for.

However, their colossal misstep could be a blessing in disguise as Lucasfilm now appears to be moving this planned content into longer-form shows that are coming to Disney+ instead. Talks are currently underway between the 48-year-old actor and Lucasfilm about an ongoing series. McGregor has long shown interest in returning to “Star Wars,” and this could be the perfect way for it to happen!

At this point, there are no details as to what the show could be about. This news shouldn’t come as a surprise as McGregor’s performance in the prequel trilogy is one of the shining moments from the films. Not only that, but we’ve already seen the rumored Boba Fett movie appear to be scrubbed and ended up inspiring a Disney+ series as well in ‘The Mandalorian.’

With Disney+ said to be releasing a slew of announcements at D23 Expo later this month, we might get our first official details instead of just reporting on talks sooner than later!

Would you be excited to see Ewan McGregor once again play the part of Obi-Wan Kenobi? Would a Disney+ series or a film be something that you’d be more interested in? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
