The current iteration of Ghost Rider was introduced in the fourth season of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ on ABC so one would think that the character’s television series would be debuting there as well. We’ve known for a while now that this isn’t the case. Now, Jeph Loeb is weighing in on why ‘Ghost Rider’, ‘Helstrom’, and the rest of the “Adventure into Fear” line up will be launching on Hulu instead of the network that gave us the fan-favorite character played by Gabriel Luna.
As to his series coming to Hulu, it is actually due to the reaction of the Netflix shows as Loeb calls out one in particular:
“No, we never intended for it to be on ABC because we wanted to do a show that was more mature. Look, it has the weight in the best way that there had been a Daredevil movie so that when there was a Daredevil television show, people knew the name. There was a lot of weight that came with the Daredevil movie that we had to shake off and prove ourselves that we could make a television show that became what it was. The good news is people love Gabe, people love the way that character works, the feature film levels special effects – and the part that’s really exciting is we’ll push it further. It will have a little fun that folks will really dig.”
This choice makes sense if you think about it. Even with a few darker storylines you never saw ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ push the boundaries of what Marvel TV could deliver in the style that the Netflix shows were able to do. Now, with a focus on “terror” in the new “Adventure into Fear,” it makes sense that the studio would want a network that would compliment it.

What they’d likely want to do with ‘Ghost Rider’ doesn’t feel like it would share a weeknight line up with the likes of ‘black-ish’ or ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’
