Get Your First Look At The Are You Afraid Of The Dark? Miniseries

The first footage from Nickelodeon’s ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ reboot is here!  And while it is an updated version, it is clearly faithful to the original series which aired from 1992-96 as it opens with Lyliana Wray, whose character is named Rachel, reciting the famous intro: “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society…” she then adds, “I call this story, ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?'” although that part is probably edited for this clip.

While Wray speaks, the video flickers with images of scary clowns, zombies, and Rafael Casal as the sinister ringmaster Mr. Tophat.  The circus setting is fitting, as this story is entitled “The Carnival of Doom.”  Unlike the original series, which was comprised of 30-minute episodes, this story will be told in three one-hour episodes.  Also unlike the original, this time, it is reported that the Midnight Society will be drawn into the events of the story as it comes to life around them.

Check out the new teaser trailer below:

This version of the Midnight Society also includes ‘It: Chapter One’s Jeremy Ray Taylor as Graham, Sam Ashe Arnold as Gavin, Miya Cech as Akiko, and Tamara Smart as Louise.  Dean Israelite (‘Power Rangers’) directed, and the script was written by BenDavid Grabinski (who is also executive producing) and Jared Rivet.  The cast also includes Forrest Rozitis, Iris Truong, Fiona Vroom, and Cardi Wong.

This reboot was originally conceived as a theatrical movie for Paramount Players, but earlier this year, it was shifted to a TV miniseries format.  The first episode will air in October.  The film was supposed to open on Oct. 11, but it’s not clear yet when the miniseries will air.

The original aired as part of Nickelodeon’s Friday night Teen Nick block of programming.  In addition to its original run, it was briefly revived in 1999.
