The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

Grab your towels as a new streaming series of ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ is coming to Hulu! Douglas Adams’ iconic comedy science fiction book is having a new live-action iteration crafted and it will be brought to us by showrunner Carlton Cuse (‘Lost’) and written by Jason Fuchs (‘Wonder Woman’.) The new show will be on Hulu but is being developed by ABC Signature which is the streaming arm of ABC Studios alongside Cuse’s Genre Arts production.

These two creators have long been fans of the books and will both write and executive produce the show. ABC’s involvement comes into play due to the IP being owned by Disney.

While there has previously been a television adaptation released in the UK and the live-action 2005 film which starred Martin Freeman and Sam Rockwell among others, this feels like the first time we might be getting a proper modern telling of the story. While the film was fun, it never reached the critical or fan acclaim which the franchise really deserves.

For those of you who have somehow missed reading the novel or viewing the film, the story follows Arthur Dent, a man who isn’t the brightest crayon in the box. When the Earth is destroyed by a species of Vogons, Arthur is saved but ends up being dragged into a giant intergalactic conflict only to find out that the Earth was constructed as a supercomputer which was trying to find the question to the answer to life, the universe, and everything. (The answer is 42 for those who didn’t know.)
