Get set to resolve one of the longest-dangling plot threads in ‘Supernatural’s entire run.  Moving into its 15th and final season, the series will reach back to Season 5 to reveal whatever happened to Dean and Sam’s half-brother Adam Milligan played by Jake Abel.  Abel has since moved on to a starring role on Netflix’s new sci-fi series ‘Another Life’, but will return to ‘Supernatural’ to resolve his storyline, which has been dangling for ten years!

At the end of Season 5, Adam was trapped in a cage in Hell, at the time, alongside Michael, Lucifer, and Sam.  Of course, Sam was rescued, but even Michael and Lucifer have since resurfaced.  Adam?  Apparently still rotting in that cell.  The character was essentially forgotten, at least by the show’s writers.  Five years later, in the meta self-skewering Season 10 episode “Fan Fiction,” Adam is mentioned in a joking manner, referencing him still being trapped and forgotten.

Fans haven’t forgotten and last November, the show’s stars, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki were asked about Adam.

Ackles replied:

“I don’t know.  I’d like to ask him. Maybe there’s a white courtesy phone we could pick up and get a straight line to him. That’s something that needs to be touched on, and it might be. But we’ll have to see.”

Padalecki said:

“That’s a great question.  I’d do anything for Jake Abel [to come] back. He’s a dear friend and an amazing actor and an amazing man. I’ll do anything to work with him again.”

Perhaps it was being asked that inspired the creators to bring back Adam in the show’s final season.  After all, if his story doesn’t get resolved then, it’ll be left dangling forever.

Executive producer Robert Singer previously stated:

“We want to pay off every character we can that viewers have either come to love or hate.”

The final hunting trip kicks off on Thursday, October 10 at 8 pm EST on The CW.
