Amazon Renews The Boys For A Second Season
Amazon Prime Video

After premiering at San Diego Comic-Con, and ahead of its national debut on Amazon Prime Video next week, ‘The Boys’ has been renewed for a second season.  This early renewal was expected as it has seemed for some time that work was being done on more episodes, even though the first season is in the can.  Just last week, it was rumored that Aya Cash (‘You’re the Worst’) was in talks to play the Thor-esque character, Stormfront.  Along with the news of the second season order, Amazon confirmed that Cash had been cast in the role.

‘The Boys’ TV series was created by Eric Kripke (‘Supernatural’), based on the satirical comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.  Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg also serve as executive producers.

In this world, superheroes are created by the Vought Corporation, and while they come across as pristine do-gooders to the public, behind closed doors, they indulge in all the drugs, sex and depravity their hearts desire.  The Boys are rough and tumble blue-collar agents tasked with keeping the super jerks in check.  Expect ‘The Boys’ to use superheroes to skewer the worlds of celebrities, politicians, and star athletes.

Karl Urban plays the leader of The Boys, Billy Butcher.  The team also includes Jack Quaid as “Wee” Hughie Campbell, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Capon as Frenchie, and Karen Fukuhara as The Female.  Elisabeth Shue portrays Madelyn Stillwell, Vought’s VP Hero Management, who oversees the activities of The Seven, this world’s thinly-veiled pastiche of the Justice League– Homelander (Antony Starr), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), The Deep (Chace Crawford) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell).

While The Boys are taking on their version of the Justice League in Season One, which will consist of eight episodes, it’s possible that in Season Two, they will find themselves facing an alternate version of The Avengers called Payback, the team of which Stormfront is a member in the comics.

But before then, Season One premieres on Amazon Prime Video next week on July 26.
