Snowpiercer

It’s finally happening!  TBS’ ‘Snowpiercer’ (originally developed for sister station TNT) is coming… soon.  On the eve of San Diego Comic-Con, TBS has dropped the first teaser trailer for the series (via Twitter), which is based on the 2013 sci-fi movie of the same name.  It is indeed a teaser– eight seconds long– and only shows snowy tracks which are soon run over by the titular locomotive.

There is nothing to be gleaned from this.  It gives no indication of how the show itself will look.  No cast members are shown.  All it reveals is that ‘Snowpiercer’ is coming soon, but by all accounts, it won’t debut until spring 2020, so I guess that really depends on one’s definition “soon.”

The show is based on the movie, which was itself based on the French graphic novel ‘Le Transperceneige’.  But according to recurring cast member Aleks Paunovic, who plays Breachman Bojan Boscovic, the TV adaptation is different from both but still exciting.

“It’s different from the movie and the [graphic novel], but all I can say is, reading the scripts, they’re fantastic. It’s captivating, and a lot of things happen that you go, ‘Oh, man, I never even thought of that.’  It’s definitely very exciting. I can’t really get too much into it, but I can definitely say that it’s something that keeps you going, for sure. Absolutely.”

The ‘Snowpiercer’ TV series was developed by Josh Friedman, who was attached as showrunner before departing due to “creative differences.”  Scott Derrickson directed the pilot, but refused to do reshoots after Friedman left.  James Hawes stepped in to finish the pilot.

The regular cast is led by Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly, and also includes Mickey Sumner, Annalise Basso, Sasha Frolova, Alison Wright, Benjamin Haigh, Roberto Urbina, Katie McGuinness, Susan Park, Lena Hall, Sheila Vand, Sam Otto, Iddo Goldberg, and Jaylin Fletcher.

Despite the behind-the-scenes issues, ‘Snowpiercer’ has preemptively been renewed for a second season.
