The prior trailers for enigmatic suspense film ‘Freaks’ have done very little to reveal what the film is actually about, but a new clip offers a lot more.

Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, ‘Freaks’ is described as a “genre-bending psychological sci-fi thriller.”  Lexy Kolker stars as Chloe, a young girl who seems to be gifted with some kind of supernatural abilities, who has been raised in isolation by her father, played by Emile Hirsch.  Their house has been boarded up with newspaper over every window or opening, ‘Birdbox’-style, and Chloe isn’t even allowed to peek out.

“Kept locked inside the house by her father, 7-year-old Chloe lives in fear and fascination of the outside world, where Abnormals create a constant threat – or so she believes. When a mysterious stranger offers her a glimpse of what’s really happening outside, Chloe soon finds that while the truth isn’t so simple, the danger is very real.”

Bruce Dern co-stars as the mysterious Mr. Snowcone.  ‘Freaks’ also stars Amanda Crew and Grace Park.

In May, a poster was released which included a phone number.  When called, a recording of a woman’s voice warned of “abnormal” activity.  In the new trailer, more of the outside world is revealed and it seems there is an epidemic of Freaks or “abnormal” activity and it is not appreciated.

Like it or not, it seems a bit of this movie’s mystery unfolds, as it seems that ‘Freaks’ may have an ‘Unbreakable’-style comic book-y twist.  Check out the new trailer below:

‘Freak’ premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall and received largely positive reviews.  However, most reviewers disclose that nothing in ‘Freaks’ is what it seems, and the new trailer even namedrops ’10 Cloverfield Lane’, so expect lots of twists and turns.
