Black Adam

With all of the recent success of the DCEU, fans may have forgotten than at one point there was a thought that a ‘Black Adam’ film with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson might be the “savior” film for the DC comic-book franchise, a film which would be able to bring those movies back from the brink of disaster (aka missteps like ‘Batman V Superman‘ and ‘Justice League‘). But after films like ‘Wonder Woman,’ ‘Aquaman,’ and ‘Shazam!‘ proved to the fans that Warner Bros and DC were capable of putting out good movies that audiences wanted to see, the limelight seemed to fall away from the ‘Black Adam’ film, even though he is still very closely tied to ‘Shazam!’ (with some fans disappointed that he did not even cameo in the Zachary Levi led film).  Which means his introduction to the DCEU is still inevitable, though little news has come out of late as to how production is coming along.

While speaking to producer Hiram Garcia at the premiere of ‘Hobbs and Shaw,’ Cinemablend got the following statement from Garcia about the ‘Black Adam’ movie and its progress with director Jaume Collet-Serra:

“Jaume is a real talent. He is one of my favorite directors I’ve ever worked with. Not only is he talented, he’s an unbelievable collaborator. He’s an amazing visionary. And what we have in store with Black Adam and for the fans, I am so excited inside. Inside, I take pride as being a fan boy. I started as a fan boy before I became a producer, so I hold onto that DNA. His vision for what we want to do with Black Adam is fantastic. So, that deal’s almost closed. He’s ready to go, and I think the fans are going to be really happy.”

Of course, with the pressure off, ‘Black Adam’ now has the freedom to take a little more time with production, including writing the script and getting the right people behind the camera, all of which will only help make the movie the powerhouse tent-pole film everyone is hoping/expecting it to be. And with Dwayne Johnson’s track record of late, it is no surprise that everyone is expecting ‘Black Adam’ to be another hit for the man, as he just cannot seem to get it wrong lately.

What are your thoughts on the ‘Black Adam’ movie? Do you think Warner Bros and DC will be able to pull it off? Are you looking forward to seeing The Rock take on a darker character? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
