All these years later most of us can’t forgive Ben Affleck for ‘Daredevil,’ and yet one person who might have the best say on the subject has weighed in – Charlie Cox. The actor who is portraying the Man Without Fear on the smash hit Netflix series not only is talking about Affleck in the movie but loved his performance! That being said, he wasn’t a fan of the film either but did enjoy how Affleck played Matt Murdock in it.
This last weekend saw Cox on a panel at Comicpalooza where the character had been discussed and when talking about how he handled the role stated:
“Personally, I think… I’m just laughing because I get asked this a lot, and sadly I’m going to say the same thing that I’ve said before I happen to think Ben Affleck’s performance as Daredevil is fantastic. I really like his Matt Murdock… I stole a lot of stuff.”
Cox went on to say that he borrowed some of the ways Affleck played Murdock for his own take on Netflix, but he really didn’t enjoy the film:
“So, I think he does a really good job. I don’t like the film. The original Daredevil film I don’t think that worked particularly well and the reason I don’t think it worked particularly well is that what we discovered with the show is that the tone of the character suits a slightly darker, more sinister feel. In my opinion, the best Daredevil comics are the ones that are geared towards a slightly more mature audience and I think that what the show captures is that level of sinister, dark tone, I guess. But I like Ben Affleck’s, Matt Murdock.”
Now, I almost want to watch the ‘Daredevil’ movie again just to view Affleck’s work on Matt Murdock. However, I don’t know if I could sit through the entire thing another time.
