The 'Game Of Thrones' Prequel Is Coming As Filming Begins!

HBO has officially begun filming the prequel to ‘Game of Thrones’ and we’ve learned that at least one of the locations where filming will take place will be in Northern Ireland! We haven’t learned if any other locations will be used for filming as was done in the eight season rating juggernaut, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a few other familiar cities referenced as well. At this time, HBO hasn’t picked up the new series, and we won’t hear about an order until after the pilot has been completed.

Showrunner Jane Goldman (‘X-Men: First Class’) has been working with franchise creator George R.R. Martin as well as director S.J. Clarkson (‘Jessica Jones’) to bring this prequel to life and the pure talent on the series is amazing. We don’t know much about what to expect quite yet outside of that it will take place approximately 5,000 years prior to the HBO series. In front of the camera will be Naomi Watts (‘King Kong’), Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Alex Sharp, and Toby Regbo.

While Martin hasn’t shared what is in the series, he let audiences know what isn’t:

“Westeros is a very different place. There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world, and hopefully, that will be part of the fun of the series.”

As the show hasn’t been picked up yet, there isn’t a release date as to when the show would debut.
