The Motherland: Fort Salem Has "Witches Becoming Warriors"

Alternate history stories are always fun, and when you throw witchcraft into the mix, you get something like ‘Motherland: Fort Salem.’ I’m usually a little hesitant about getting excited about shows coming to Freeform, but the trailer for this one looks interesting enough that it might be worth checking out if you don’t mind the young adult flavor that often comes with the shows on the network.

The series will star Ashley Nicole Williams, Jessica Sutton, Taylor Hickson, Demetria McKinney, and Amalia Holm. On the creative side of things, we’ll see Eliot Laurence, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kevin Messick, Maria Maggenti, and Steven Adelson all serving as executive producers.

As to what’ Motherland: Fort Salem’ is about, here’s the synopsis:

Set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution over 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the government to fight for their country, “Motherland: Fort Salem” follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with the more dominant women on the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are familiar to our world—but with supernatural tactics and weapons.

Well, these young ladies sure look to be getting prepared for taking out some serious mystical threats. With ten episodes in the first season, there should be plenty of time to win over audiences with a solid story, and this preview looks to be giving us one.

What are your thoughts on the first trailer for ‘Motherland: Fort Salem’? Do you believe that Freeform has a solid show on their hands? Could this transcend the usual young adult audience that the network is known for? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
