Millennial heartthrob du jour Noah Centineo has confirmed that he will portray He-Man/Prince Adam in the upcoming Sony film adaptation of ‘Masters of the Universe’!  The confession came during an interview on ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’.  In short order, Centineo acknowledged his resemblance to Mark Ruffalo (which is UNCANNY!), followed by Fallon showing off Centineo’s new Calvin Klein underwear ad, which elicited a few catcalls, before Fallon asked him whether or not he was playing He-Man, to which he replied:

“Yes… ‘Masters of the Universe’… I have an affinity for being in my underwear.”

Here’s proof of that– his Calvin Klein ad:

Centineo joked about having to work out after landing the CK gig, but if he wants to do right by He-Man, he’s going to have to hit the gym a lot harder!  Or, maybe like the Hulk, they’ll use CG to enhance him.  But there’s one more comparison to Ruffalo, another otherworldly muscle monster on the big screen.

Twin brothers  Aaron and Adam Nee are set to direct.  In January, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (‘Men in Black: International’) were brought on board to retool the script.  The movie had been scheduled for release this December, but it was recently revealed that Sony had pushed it to 2020.  Even so, that seems like a tight deadline for an effects-heavy sci-fi/fantasy movie, but hey!  We’ll see.  This is the furthest a ‘Masters of the Universe’ movie has made it in the three+ decades since the poorly-received 1987 dud.  Muscular martial artist (and chemical engineer!) Dolph Lundgren played He-Man in that 1987 flick.

Centineo first gained wide recognition after he replaced Jake T. Austin on Freeform’s family drama ‘The Fosters’.  He has since popped up in spinoff series ‘Good Trouble’.  His popularity soared after playing the male lead in ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ opposite Lana Condor, which hit Netflix last year, and according to Fallon, was the most popular original movie on the streaming service.  He followed that very quickly with another Netflix teen romcom, ‘Sierra Burgess is a Loser’ with Shannon Purser.  His next movie, ‘Swiped’ wound up going straight-to-VOD in November.  He also appeared on the go90 series ‘T@gged’.  Most recently, he starred in… yep, another Netflix teen romcom, ‘The Perfect Date’.

Centineo has wrapped a role in the big screen reboot of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ which hits theaters on November 15.  He is presently filming the sequel to ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’.
