Colin Farrell Heads A Cast Including Tye Sheridan For 'Voyagers' A Space 'Lord Of The Flies'

Colin Farrell, who most recently starred in Disney’s ‘Dumbo’, will head up a youthful cast for what sounds like ‘Lord of the Flies’ in outer space.  AGC Studios and Thunder Road (makers of the ‘John Wick’ franchise) are set to bring us ‘Voyagers’ to be written and directed by Neil Burger (‘Limitless’, ‘The Illusionist’, ‘Divergent’).

The story follows:

“30 children who are sent on a multi-generational mission to populate a new planet. After the captain of the mission is killed in mysterious circumstances, the young crew descends into chaos, aligning themselves into tribes as they surrender to their most feral impulses. Production is due to get underway in Romania in early June.”

Among the young cast, perhaps the most recognizable is Tye Sheridan, who plays Cyclops/Scott Summers in the ‘X-Men’ movies and who also headlined last year’s ‘Ready Player One’.

He will be joined by Lily-Rose Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis.  She has appeared in a couple of Kevin Smith projects, ‘Tusk’, and ‘Yoga Hosers’, and is expected to be in his in-development film ‘Moose-Jaws’.  She has also completed filming the historical war movie ‘The King’.  Most of her other films have been in French.

Also cast is Fionn Whitehead who starred in ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ and ‘Dunkirk’.  His last picture was the indie film ‘Roads’.

“Advanced discussions” are said to be ongoing with Kelvin Harrison Jr. (‘Godfather of Harlem’), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark on ‘Game of Thrones’), Chanté Adams (‘Roxanne Roxanne’) and Madison Hu (Disney’s ‘Bizaardvark’).

Reportedly, ‘Voyagers’ has been sold to Universal International to be distributed in various countries, including the UK, France, Italy, Scandinavia, Australia, and New Zealand.  It has not been sold in the US yet, but “buyers are circling.”

Having helmed the first ‘Divergent’, Burger has experience with a young cast in an apocalyptic setting.  His last picture, ‘The Upside’ was a surprise feel-good hit, starring Bryan Cranston, Kevin Hart, and Nicole Kidman.

As stated, ‘Voyagers’ is expected to begin filming in June, presumably to arrive next year.  Check back for news as it surfaces.
