Expect A Heavy 'Star Wars' Presence At San Diego Comic-Con And D23 This Year

Now that Disney has announced the title of the new ‘Star Wars’ movie, and released a trailer, it seems that the marketing campaign is in full effect and expect that to carry through this summer’s active convention season.  According to sources, a ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‘ panel is planned for San Diego Comic-Con, while this year’s D23 expo gathering will be used to promote Disney+ streaming service, which will be home to ‘The Mandalorian’, the first live-action ‘Star Wars’ TV series.

Considering that Disney+ is THE major emphasis for the company, it makes sense that it will be heavily represented at D23, where Disney tends to spotlight their biggest projects.  As for SDCC, this will be the first major ‘Star Wars’ presence since ‘The Force Awakens’, when J.J. Abrams held court to ramp up excitement over the first new movie in years.  Disney has skipped SDCC for ”The Last Jedi’, ‘Rogue One’, and ‘Solo’.  With such a high-profile outlet, expect a new trailer or some other new footage to be unveiled.  While a ‘Star Wars’ movie doesn’t need any added hype, this would be a great opportunity to reward fans.

At this point, this information has not been officially confirmed by Disney, so take it with a grain of salt.

San Diego Comic-Con takes place from Thursday, July 18 until Sunday, July 21.  The D23 Expo takes place in Anaheim, on August 23-25.

‘The Mandalorian’ will be available when Disney+ launches on November 12 of this year.  ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ arrives in theaters on December 20.  This will be the final ‘Star Wars’ movie for a few years, as Disney is letting the brand rest a bit.  There are two separate trilogies in the works, but those are just in the planning stages.

Are you more excited about ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ or ‘The Mandalorian’?
