A scene that was cut from the Season 8 premiere of ‘Game of Thrones’ confirmed a popular fan theory about Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and her connection to her dragons. The unedited scene was presented in a behind-the-scenes featurette shared by HBO through its various social media accounts.

In the clip, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) mounts up and flies on the back of one of the dragons– the first time anyone other than Daenerys has done so on the program. While doing so, Snow tells Daenerys:
“You’ve completely ruined horses for me. It almost seemed like he knew where I wanted to go.”
It’s a small line, but now that viewers– and Jon Snow– know the truth about his bloodline, this seems to validate the belief that the dragons are connected mentally to the Targaryens. Fans have assumed as such, as there have been numerous occasions when Daenerys seemed to summon them at will.
Here is one instance cited by ComicBook.com:
One scene showed her surrounded by the Sons of the Harpy in the fighting pits of Meereen, and while two of her dragons were chained up in the catacombs underneath the city, Drogon swooped in and rescued her, carrying her to safety.
In fact, in the same featurette, showrunner David Benioff further confirmed this theory:
“Only Targaryens can ride dragons, and that should be a sign for Jon. It’s a major thing for her when she sees they have some kind of connection to him. They allow him to be around them.”
