Bjorn Runge (‘The Wife’) is giving us a new science fiction film in ‘StarDream’ and has just tapped Vanessa Kirby (‘The Crown’) to be the lead for the film. ‘StarDream’ being produced by Silver Reel and Bigscope Films. Behind the camera, we’ll see Claudia Bluemhuber who will produce the film with Jason Newmark and Laurie Cook, and Georgia Bayliff co-producing. The screenplay was penned by Felix Harrison (‘Far Edge of the World’), and we’ll see production designer Suzie Davies (‘Peterloo’) as well as visual effects producer Tim Field (‘Bohemian Rhapsody’) also attached.

In the movie, Kirby is playing Andreya who is a highly skilled coder. The story itself takes place on a spaceship which was put together in a hurry as life on Earth is coming to an end and hundreds of thousands were cryogenically frozen and sent in the ship to start a new home for humanity. Only, the computer begins to malfunction and Andreya creates an artificial intelligence to keep things running named Stephen. It starts out great but Stephen soon “develops a profound attachment to Andreya, compromising the mission and the future of the human race.”

According to Runge:

“To play the leading role in this intergalactic drama needs an extremely sensitive and thoughtful actress who can maintain the balance in her character: I have found that actress in Vanessa Kirby. It is a tremendous honor for me to work together with her on this film.”

The idea for the film sounds like it could be fun and an easy way not to have an expansive cast yet still be able to tell a compelling story.
