Nicholas Hoult Tolkien

Director Dome Karukoski seems to have captured the strife that brought J.R.R. Tolkien’s life into inspiration for one of the greatest fantasy epics of all time in the upcoming ‘Tolkien‘ biopic. The early trailers have Nicholas Hoult seeming to deliver a solid take on the author behind ‘The Hobbit’ and “The Lord of the Rings” series which has been appealing to fans to Middle Earth for decades. This trailer shows that Tolkien wants to write something and we all know what that ended up being.

‘Tolkien’ is set to show how the author’s friendships from school, the love of his life, and fighting in World War I not only shaped his life but his writing as well.

While I’ve been dying to see this biopic since it was first announced in 2013, I almost wish it was delayed long enough to take advantage of the hype which will surround Amazon Studios’ live-action ‘Lord of the Rings’ series. We know that it will focus on Tolkien’s work which wasn’t featured in Peter Jackson’s work and it could be interesting to see if Karukoski ties any of these other moments from the books into this biopic.

Tolkien explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love
and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into
the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “Fellowship” apart. All of these
experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-earth novels.

‘Tolkien’ will be in theaters on May 10th, 2019
