7. Her Name Is Carol And She’s An Alcoholic

During the late ’90s, Carol rejoined the Avengers, losing her Binary cosmic abilities, but restored to her Ms. Marvel power levels.  But along the way, similarly to Tony Stark many years before, she developed a drinking problem, eventually going into action while drunk, which obviously didn’t go well.  This led to her quitting the Avengers before she could be kicked out.

She has since been shown to be in active recovery and attends 12-step meetings.

8. Carol Is The Second Female Captain Marvel

In 1982, Marvel introduced a new Captain Marvel, African American Monica Rambeau.  This was a bold move on Marvel’s part, but one that was widely accepted with little question.  Unfortunately, she eventually faded into obscurity and Marvel introduced Genis-Vell, the long-lost son of Mar-Vell and made him the new Captain Marvel.  Monica adopted the name Photon, although, for some ridiculous reason, Genis-Vell then decided he wanted to be known as Photon!  Monica became Pulsar, but by this point, readers had given up and started simply calling her by her real name.  Most recently, she adopted the identity of Spectrum and she and Carol operated together on the team the Ultimates.

Monica’s mother, Maria appears in ‘Captain Marvel’, portrayed by Lashana Lynch, and there are rumors that Monica will appear as a child, setting her up to return in later films as an adult… possibly one with superpowers!

9. The Cat From Outer Space

Carol has a cat that, in the comics, she named Chewie and took with her when she journeyed out into the cosmos.  But Rocket identified Chewie as a Flerken, an alien race that looks like Earth cats.  It turns out he was right.  Chewie laid over 100 eggs in their space ship which hatched into protoplasmic beings, with long tentacles and pocket dimensions inside of them that can contain any number of things, and be used to teleport.

In the movie, Chewie has been renamed Goose, and she may… or may not, also be an alien.
